Drive just about anywhere in Sandoval County and you'll use the services of the County's Public Works Division, which maintains, upgrades and improves roadways and infrastructure. Public Works removes snow and responds to flood damage during inclement weather, and supports other agencies during fires or emergencies. The division also manages the County Landfill and transfer stations.
Roadways Have a road needing repair? Public Works routinely maintains County roadways. Call 771-8500 if you feel your County road needs work. The division's administrative office is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday. Normal hours at the County Road Yard are 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Excavation permits are required for road-cuts and can be obtained by calling Public Works, 771-8500, or by visiting the office, which is located next to the County Landfill on Iris Road, just west of NM 528.

Solid Waste Want to carry out the trash? Residential and commercial waste can be disposed of at the County Landfill, 867-0816, located on Idalia Road. west of NM 528. The Landfill is open 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday – Saturday. It is closed on Sundays and holidays and may stop operations during periods of high winds, rain or snow. All loads must be in enclosed containers or secured under tarps to prevent littering.
Residential waste also can be disposed of at Landfill Convenience Stations in Cuba, Cañon and Peña Blanca. Vehicles or trailers larger than full-size pickups, however, will be referred to the main County Landfill. The convenience stations are open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call the County Landfill, 867-0816, for locations and directions to the convenience stations.

Because of stringent federal, State and County regulations, the following materials cannot be accepted at Sandoval County Landfill sites:
* Hazardous waste * Animal carcasses * Tires * Car bodies, trailers or other vehicles requiring licenses * Burning trash, hot barrels or ashes * Fuels, oils, anti-freeze or contaminated soil * Household hazardous waste * Paints, thinners or solvents * Refrigerators or compressors containing Freon |
